Overview

Carmen L. Lopez is an associate attorney in Hawks Quindel’s Milwaukee office focusing on social security disability benefits and employment discrimination.

Experience

Attorney Lopez is a graduate of Marquette University Law School and joined Hawks Quindel in 2022 as a law clerk. As a law clerk, Attorney Lopez assisted on a variety of labor and employment matters including employment discrimination, wage & hour, worker’s compensation, and contractual disputes.

As an attorney, she focuses her practice on representing individuals who have been victims of employment discrimination based on race, age, disability, sexual orientation, etc. and disabled individuals with claims for social security disability benefits.

During her time as a law student, she was the recipient of several merit-based scholarships including the Thomas More Law Scholarship and Edward H. Meldman Scholarship. Attorney Lopez also volunteered at the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic: Small Business Clinic where she assisted volunteer attorneys in advising local, small business owners with a variety of legal matters. Prior to clerking at Hawks Quindel, Attorney Lopez was also a law clerk for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards as well as Fiserv.

A Georgia native, Attorney Lopez attended the University of Georgia where she received Bachelor’s of Art degrees in International Affairs and Women’s Studies. She also spent a semester studying crime and social justice in Liverpool, England. As an undergraduate, she dedicated over 20 hours per semester volunteering in the Athens, Georgia community, was a member of the Triota Women’s Studies Honor Society, and a student presenter at the 25th Annual Women’s Studies Student Symposium.

After graduating from the University of Georgia, Attorney Lopez was a paralegal for an immigration firm in Atlanta, Georgia. An immigrant herself, she remains committed to the rights of Spanish-speaking immigrants and employees in Wisconsin.

Outside of work, Attorney Lopez is a member of a book club, enjoys traveling, and spending time with her husband and their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, aptly named Georgia.
