On April 29, 2011, Attorneys Nicholas Fairweather, Katherine Charlton and Timothy Hawks led workshops for AFT-W members as part of the Union’s Professional Development Day. Fairweather provided an overview of the federal and state Family & Medical Leave Acts and answered questions from union members about the application of these laws in their workplaces. Charlton conducted a workshop on when to use and how to complete end of life and substitute decision making documents including Power of Attorney for Health Care, Power of Attorney for Finances, Declaration to Physician/Living Will and Authorization for Final Disposition. Charlton focused on the recently-modified, state-provided Power of Attorney for Finances form. Hawks offered a workshop on the difference between collective bargaining rights and civil service rights.
