After the death of a partner and father, three beneficiaries were denied $115,000 in life insurance benefits due to them. Humana Insurance Company underpaid the claim based on two technicalities: (1) Humana claimed the decedent was not employed at the time of his death and thus his benefits were subject to a 50 percent reduction. (2) Humana claimed the decedent had not elected supplemental coverage. After two administrative appeals, Humana reversed its decision and paid the benefits in their entirety. The beneficiaries were represented by Attorney Danielle Schroder .
