Attorney Jeffrey Sweetland practices primarily in the areas of labor, employment, FMLA and pension and employee benefit law. Representative labor clients include the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals and locals of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Service Employees International Union, United Steel Workers, and Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers Union.
He is a member of the State Bars of Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Georgia and was a labor-side director of the Wisconsin State Bar Labor and Employment Law Section from 1994 to 1997.
Attorney Sweetland served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1971. Prior to law school, he worked in the legal department of the United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO, in California and in the Southern Woodcutters Assistance Project in Mississippi.
Attorney Sweetland has practiced before the U. S. Supreme Court, the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago, the U. S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, Wisconsin circuit courts and various state and federal administrative agencies.
Following law school, Attorney Sweetland served as a law clerk to Judge Elbert P. Tuttle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia, and on the organizing staff of the AFL-CIO Industrial Union Department in Georgia. He then practiced law in Atlanta for four years before moving to Milwaukee in 1990. He has been a member of Hawks Quindel or its predecessor firms since 1991.
Attorney Sweetland is a contributing author of Wisconsin Employment Law, a three-volume treatise published by the State Bar of Wisconsin.
Attorney Sweetland received his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1968 and his J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 1984.
