Overview

Attorney Pirt Meyer joined the firm in 2023 and specializes in Social Security Disability matters, representing those who have been denied benefits. She also practices in related disability matters, including special needs trust creation.

Attorney Pirt Meyer has worked in disability, elder, and injury law, including litigation practice. Prior to legal practice she worked within the health insurance field, providing insight into health, disability, and contractual matters.

As someone with family members living with disabilities, she understands the practical everyday challenges, the unique effect those impairments have on mental health, and the legal questions and problems that frequently occur. She works with clients in advocating for their treatment and for their disability claims, while stressing the importance of considering the larger picture of health and vocation.

Experience

Attorney Pirt Meyer has served as advocate and resource for mental health disorders, traumatic brain injuries, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurological deficits. In recent years she has had opportunity to guide individuals (or their loved ones) through mental health crises and legal proceedings, providing her with unique knowledge of current treatments and community programs. She served as author in Mental Health Law in Wisconsin: A Guide for Legal and Healthcare Professionals, a guide published by the Wisconsin State Bar in 2020-2021, specifically writing on benefits available for those with mental disabilities and the legal duties and responsibilities of mental health professionals.

Attorney Pirt Meyer is a frequent presenter on issues of disability, ethics, and elder law to legal professionals and community groups. She is known for presenting these issues with practical applications, examples and humor. On multiple occasions she has been asked by attendees (and clients) whether she also performs stand-up comedy.

She has practiced in Wisconsin district courts, civil courts, and administrative proceedings. She is member of professional organizations including the National Organization of Social Security Representatives and the Dane County Bar Association. She recently served as member of the litigation committee of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), as well as ambassador of the Wisconsin chapter. She previously served as President and Secretary of Dane County NAMI, and as committee program lead of the Dane County Bar Association. Currently Attorney Pirt Meyer is board member of the Monona Public Library Foundation.

When not at work, Attorney Pirt Meyer may be coaxing her joints to run, but is more likely found hiking (or snow-shoeing) with her family or at barre and yoga classes. She is also an avid “crafter” who knits, sews, embroiders, and quilts with emphasis on vintage fashion and designs.

“[Attorney Pirt Meyer] is very helpful and knowledgeable about disability law. She always answered my questions. Was completely honest about everything involving my case and appeal. Thanks to her, my case was approved. [She] and her staff, as well, as myself were ecstatic. I couldn’t have picked a better attorney or person.”
