CIGNA’s History of Disability Insurance Denials

CIGNA, also known as the Life insurance Company of North America, is an insurance company that is based in Bloomfield Connecticut. Formed in 1982 through a merger, CIGNA has a nationwide presence offering a variety of insurance products such as life insurance, disability insurance and health insurance. These products are meant to protect you financially in the event of a medical or health crisis. If your insurance claim is denied when you need benefits most, Hawks Quindel can help.

If CIGNA or the Life Insurance Company of North America has denied your claim for long-term disability benefits, you are not alone. Additionally, this denial may not have been correct based on the terms of your Plan. The company previously entered into a settlement with the State of California related to its disability insurance claims process. According to the California Insurance Commissioner, in addition to a $600,000 fine, the company “agreed to make changes in its claims handling policies and procedures, and to review previously closed claims to determine if additional benefits are due.”

Hawks Quindel has also obtained approvals of disability insurance claims after it has appealed CIGNA’s wrongful denials of benefits. CIGNA has also previously been forced to enter into an agreement with several states, including California, Connecticut, Main, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, to improve its disability insurance claims processes. As demonstrated by these decisions, insurance companies such as CiGNA can be held accountable if they deny legitimate claims. Hawks Quindel is on the frontlines fighting for people’s rights.

Denied by CIGNA? Here’s How We Can Help

  1. We work with you and your doctors to gather statements, medical records and other documentation needed to support your claim with the disability insurance company.
  2. We appeal disability insurance denials, building your case with factual and legal arguments to prove you are entitled to LTDI benefits under the insurance policy.
  3. If your disability appeal is unsuccessful, we pursue litigation in state or federal court to recover the disability insurance benefits owed to you. We have extensive experience with state and federal laws, and understand how to navigate the legal system in order to enforce your rights.

What Should You Do if Denied by CIGNA?

  1. Contact us via phone or email form (at right) to tell us about your disability insurance claim appeal.
  2. We work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you do not pay a fee unless we are successful.
