Attorney Murshid’s practice focuses largely on federal class action wage litigation, which means she spends the lion’s share of her waking moments making sure she’s doing everything she can to ensure every employer in the great State of Wisconsin pays every employee fairly and legally.
Attorney Murshid devotes the rest of her law practice to litigating on behalf of individual clients who need assistance with a wide range of employment issues, including:
• Defending victims of employment discrimination;
• Assisting individuals who have been denied unemployment benefits; and
• Negotiating severance agreements for employees transitioning to new, career-enhancing opportunities elsewhere.
Even though she has finally learned to embrace all things “winter” in Wisconsin, every once in awhile, when the temps dip below 0°, you might find her gazing longingly toward the west coast, wishing for a warm Pacific Ocean wind and a cold cocktail. The moment is always fleeting though, as she couldn’t be happier to be where she is, doing the work she is able to do at Hawks Quindel.
During her career, Attorney Murshid has also represented individual clients, including teachers, bus drivers, and high school sports coaches in arbitration hearings through her work as a union attorney. She has also represented claimants in sexual assault, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, race and disability discrimination cases.
Attorney Murshid belongs to the Association of Women Lawyers, the Milwaukee Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin, the National Employment Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association. She also works with the Volunteer Lawyers Project and Wills For Heroes. In an ongoing quest for work-life balance, however, she still finds time to attend art and music classes with her one-year-old son.
She is admitted to practice in all Wisconsin state courts, including the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.
While earning her J.D., Attorney Murshid worked on employment policy issues at Workplace Flexibility 2010, a non-profit clinic based at Georgetown. She also worked as an intern for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Women Empowered Against Violence.
Attorney Murshid also served as the Chair of the Milwaukee Chapter of the ACLU from 2010-2012 and now serves as a member of the ACLU Nominating Committee. She is in her second term as a Board Member for the Labor and Employment Section of the Wisconsin State Bar.
