HAWKS & HALSTEAD FILE SUIT ON BEHALF OF CITY OF RACINE EMPLOYEES TO ENFORCE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTS

On July 19, 2012, Attorney Timothy Hawks and Aaron Halstead, Of Counsel filed suit against the City of Racine, on behalf of City of Racine firefighters, police officers, public works, streets, clerical, water and wastewater, and various other city employees. The lawsuit alleges that, on July 17, 2012, the City illegally rescinded collective bargaining agreements it signed with over 500 city employees, in 2010 and 2011, covering the period January 1, 2013, through December 31, 2014. In these agreements, the City promised, among other things, to provide wage increases, provide health insurance, and fund employee retirement accounts. The Unions’ lawsuit alleges that the City has illegally disavowed its obligations under five collective bargaining agreements, and requests that the Racine County Circuit Court issue a declaratory judgment, ordering the City to honor its agreements with the Unions.
